Long Island City, NY - State Medicaid programs have recently improved their initiatives to prioritize the quality of care for their members. This will ensure that every patient who needs non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) can receive it without issues. On April 3, the New York Department of Health will require all Medicaid transportation providers (TPs) to be GPS-compliant to support patient safety, reduce fraud, waste, and abuse, and ensure these rides are completed with credentialed transportation providers and drivers. Overall, this GPS mandate in New York is part of a wider initiative to improve the quality of healthcare services in the state and ensure that all patients have access to reliable and efficient transportation to their medical appointments.
In order to accomplish this goal, the New York State Department of Health introduced this initiative in 2018 as a way to improve the quality and efficiency of NEMT services. Now mandated, this initiative aims to improve the quality and safety of NEMT services by enabling real-time tracking of vehicles, reducing wait times for patients, and improving communication between providers and patients. For a trip to be considered GPS-compliant, transportation providers must provide Medical Answering Services (MAS) with pickup, destination point, and all GPS coordinates occurring throughout a NEMT trip. As one of the first integration partners of MAS, Kinetik customers can be confident they are positioned to provide all data required of the GPS mandate.
Through our technology and dispatch partners (iCabbi, CTS Software, Tobi, and many others), Kinetik enables transportation providers to digitize their operations to meet the new GPS mandate in New York State. Digitization allows providers to track the location of NEMT vehicles in real time with accurate and up-to-date patient transportation status. This new mandate ensures that all providers are prioritizing patient care and safety when it comes to the accuracy of their trip cycle.
"Kinetik is excited to continue our partnered integration with Medical Answering Services (MAS) to support GPS compliance for New York state. We are thrilled to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse in the non-emergency medical transportation industry and ensure that patient experience is a top priority for all transportation providers,” said Mahbub Rahman, Chief Technology Officer at Kinetik.
With Kinetik’s ability to digitize NEMT providers' services, companies can easily ensure compliance with the new GPS mandate. Learn more about Kinetik at kinetik.care and connect with us at sales@kinetik.care.
